ARLINGTON, MA, Nov. 20, Arlington Soccer Team the “Red Dragons” is excited to announce it tied for first place in the 4th Grade Girls ‘white’ division at Winchester Veterans’ Day Soccer Tournament, played November 18th and 19th. The Red Dragons tied for the top ranking along with the Winchester Flash. The Red Dragons, an in-town team for the Arlington Soccer Club, played three matches against largely select travel teams from Milton, Andover, and Winchester.
The match against the Milton Independence featured tremendous goalie work from Arlington goalies. The game initially appeared to be a lop-sided match, with the Milton team unleashing a ferocious number of shots on goal. Arlington found offensive drives hard to come by, but managed to deliver two successful forays, resulting in goals. The match ended 2-1. “I’m not sure how we managed a victory on that first game with Milton,” said Head Coach Mike Stern. “It seemed a bit like David vs. Goliath. Milton was probably the best team we’ve ever faced. The passing of their Forwards was amazing. But our girls dug in and kept fighting them off.”
Arlington’s second match was played against the Andover Cheetahs, another select travel team. Arlington completely shut down a solid offensive output from Andover, while scoring three goals. The match ended 3-0.
For the Red Dragons’ third match on Sunday, they were forced to play in rainy, muddy conditions. Once again focusing on defense first, the Red Dragons fought off numerous offensive attacks from the Winchester Breakers. In a few short bursts of offensive firepower, the Red Dragons managed to score twice. The match ended 2-0.
