Over the weekend of June 25, the boys grade 10 Arlington Eagles competed in the Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC). Following a 6-0-1 regular season, the Eagles were the only Arlington team to represent BAYS at MTOC this spring. Playing in Division 1, the Eagles went undefeated in group play, beating Scituate 2-0, East Bridgewater 6-0, and Tyngsboro 2-1. Facing Walpole in the semi-finals, Arlington dictated the play. However numerous squandered chances and a late Walpole goal resulted in a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation. Following a scoreless overtime, the teams moved to penalties. The shootout remained tied through 8 shooters until goalkeeper Jonathan Zak saved Walpole’s 9th penalty attempt. Grant Griesman then calmly stepped up and slotted his shot into the bottom left corner of the net, sending Arlington into the finals vs. North Andover. In the finals, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but North Andover managed to tie the game midway through the second half, resulting in yet another overtime. Early in the first overtime, North Andover capitalized on a loose ball in the box, taking a 2-1 lead. Arlington battled for the remainder of the game, but unfortunately could not find the equalizer.
Throughout the tournament, the Eagles displayed outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship, while proudly representing both BAYS and Arlington. Congratulations to the Arlington Eagles on a great season!
