Sam Oliver Scholarship

Sam Oliver coached three generation of girls soccer in the Arlington Soccer Club (ASC) and his tireless work as chief friend of the AHS girls varsity soccer program played a significant role in the strength of girls soccer in Arlington at every level.

Sam passed away in February 2007 and the Arlington Soccer Club established the Sam Oliver Memorial Scholarship as a tribute to his memory. The Arlington Soccer Club annually awards scholarship money to graduating seniors with a history of playing, coaching or refereeing for the ASC.  The ASC hosts an annual fundraiser day and uses other methods, like the New England Revolutions Tailgating Party to raise funds for the scholarship as well.

Criteria (in descending order of importance):

  • A graduating senior that has played, coached, refereed or managed for the Arlington Soccer Club for at least 5 years
  • The applicant should have average or above average grades and have plans to go to a 2 to 4 year college or university.
  • Consideration will be given to those applicants who have shown a history of civic volunteering

Description of award:

  • One time only scholarship award
  • Minimum of $1,000 per recipient
  • Number of recipients vary year by year. Average is two boys and two girls
  • A check is presented to the recipient at the Arlington High Awards Night
